Cape Town Centre for Paediatric Palliative Care
A vision and mission for Africa
We envision a world where children with serious health related suffering would find relief, where their families would find support and the professionals looking after them would be empowered to care for them.
The mission of the CoE is to pioneer best practices in Paediatric Palliative Care by integrating services, research and education in a way that is culturally sensitive and responsive to the needs of African children and their families.
Children needing Palliative Care in Africa
21 million children worldwide with conditions that would benefit from a palliative care approach with more than eight million of these in need of specialised PPC.
It is believed that 98% of these children live in Low Middle Income Countries (LMIC) and 50% of them in Africa.
